The following are the rules and regulations as set out by the
organizing committee of the International Yoga Asana
Championship.

I. ELIGIBILITY:

The Adult Division championship is open to all individuals 18 years and older. This division is divided into men and women categories.

First and second place winners in the championship are eligible to compete at the 6th Annual International Yoga Asana Championship Finals in Los Angeles, CA February, 2009. The third place finisher will be designated as an alternate competitor.

 
II. PROOF OF AGE:

The Adult Division championship is open to all individuals 18 years and older. This division is divided into men and women categories.

III. RESIDENCY: Applicants must furnish proof of residency.  In the Philippines, this means a photocopy of the applicant's passport or birth certificate. For foreigners, the required documents include (a) a photocopy of a valid alien employment permit issued by the Department of Labor, work visa; (b) photocopy of work visa, investor visa or student visa stamp in the passport issued by the Bureau of Immigration; and (c) photocopy of alien certificate of registration issued by the Bureau of Immigration. Foreigners using a tourist visa are not eligible to compete.
 
IV. PROHIBITION:

Any stimulating drug or alcoholic beverage must not be used before or during the championship by any competitor and will be treated as violation of the rules. Contestant will immediately be disqualified.

Female contestants must not be pregnant.

No contestant can participate as a judge at any regional championship. The Committee reserves the full right to suspend a competitor at any time.

 
V. ENTRY FEE AND FORMS:

There is no entry fee for individuals wishing to participate in the PYAC. Entry fee for the Champion of Champions Finals in Los Angeles will be $100. This fee and the cost of getting to the competition in Los Angeles (i.e. visa, flight and hotel) is for the account of the competitor unless indicated by the PYAC during the registration.

  1. The entry fee – if any -- must accompany the entry form.
  2. Photo ID of the competitor must be attached to this form together with proof of residency.
  3. For the finals: Copy of the certificate of the Regional Yoga Championship which you have participated in must be attached to the entry form. Competitors name and age must be noted on the office stationary of the participating organization or any other institution with its seal and signature of the director of the Institution in support of the candidate’s entry.
  4. Signed Waiver of liability form must also be enclosed. Parent or legal guardian must sign waivers and entry forms for all Youth Division contestants.

 
VI. ATTIRE:

Female: One or two-piece costume with open arms and legs (no bikinis), or exercise top with half tights or cycle shorts.

Male: Swim suit or cycle shorts.

 
VII. ASANAS:

ADULT DIVISION – 18 yrs. and older

Five Compulsory Asanas (postures) as stated below and two additional asanas at the competitor’s option from the 84 asanas as derived from Patanjali all to be completed in 3 minutes.

  1. Dandayamana Janusirasana (Standing-Head-to-Knee)
    (4 parts)
  2. Dandayamana Dhanurasana (Standing Bow Pulling Pose)
  3. Dhanurasana (Bow Pose)
  4. Sasangasana (Rabbit Pose)
  5. Pashcimottanasana (Stretching Pose)
  6. Optional Choice Asana
  7. Optional Choice Asana
 

NOTES FOR JUDGES & COMPETITORS

  1. Each posture will be judged on a scale of 0 to 10 points.
  2. The compulsory postures plus the two optional postures in the sequence must be performed within 3 minutes. If the performance is longer than 3 minutes the posture will be considered incomplete and disqualified.
  3. Each posture is to be performed with stability and appropriate use of the time to finish the pose.
  4. Contestants will be judged on the following criteria:

• Walk
• Movement
• General appearance
• Gracefulness
• Performance of postures

**Optional postures will be judged on the degree of difficulty and performance. Points will be deducted if there is a fall, unbalance and/or instability.
